OTA PICTURE OF THE WEEK

U10 Provincial Regrouping at ACE
The OTA hosted a U10 Provincial regrouping camp at ACE Burlington on Sunday March 22nd. Led by ACE Tennis Coach: Mike Hall, 20 players were put through their paces in a full intense day of training with the focus being on tactical elements and fitness!  The Ontario based coaches did a great job in assisting our Future Stars during this first camp. A special thanks to the coaches who assisted: Brandon Alguire (ACE), Ryan Zeman (ACE), Jon Kudjerski (TTA), Peter Liu (ORC) & the fitness coaches: Guillaume and Derek (ACE).

Junior Indoor Provincials Results
The Ontario Junior Indoor Provincial Championships were recently held at several locations across the province. The tournament featured some of Ontario’s, and Canada’s, top players. A record 495 players competed in the U12, U14, U16 and U18 events. The Junior Indoor Provincials are an important tournament, weighing heavily as part of the Team Ontario selection process. Those players who are successful in making Team Ontario will compete in the Indoor Junior Nationals and other important events throughout the year. This is the largest Provincial Championships in Canada. The results were as follows:

Team Ontario Heading to the Nationals
Over 90 junior players are heading to various parts of the country to participate in the Junior Nationals. The U12’s begin in Calgary and the U16’s will be playing in Montreal this week. Next week the U14’s are in Vancouver and the U18’s are in Markham at the Mayfair East and Parkway locations.

Junior Indoor Provincials Begin Friday
Play commences Friday in all categories of the Junior Indoor Provincials at the following five locations:

U12 Boys and Girls: ACE Academy at Cedar Springs, Burlington, Mar 13-17
U14 Boys and Girls: Whiteoaks, Niagara, Mar 18-22
U16 Boys: Parkside, Windsor, Mar 13-17
U16 Girls: Veneto, Woodbridge, Mar 13-17
U18 Boys and Girls: Ontario Racquet Club, Mississauga, Mar 18-22

2015 ITF Young Seniors World Team Championships
TheCanadian Team is off to compete in the 2015 ITF Young Seniors World Team Championships in Antalya, Turkey March 16 to 21. The event represents the first Young Seniors event of its kind after Seniors competition was split into three categories (Young Seniors, Seniors and Super Seniors) for 2015 to accommodate its increasing popularity, It features the 35, 40 and 45 age groups. The Team Championships will be followed by the World Individual Young Senior Championships Mar 22 to 29. Players on the Canadian team from Ontario include Jennifer Bishop in the Women’s Over 35, Brian Ahlberg, Cameron Cross in the Men’s Over 35, Jason Christie and Rob Husain in the Men’s Over 40 and Mike O’Neill and John Murray in the Men’s Over 45, For more info on the event, click here.

The Senior Eastern Indoor National Championships
Play begins next week for the Senior Eastern Indoor National Championships. Matches start on the Wednesday the 18th with most finals scheduled for Sunday the 22nd.Women’s matches in all categories (O35 – O85) will be held at the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club. Davis Cup: Canada Plays Japan in Vancouver This Weekend
Canada is set to host Japan in a World Group first round tie in Vancouver this weekend. This is a repeat of the World Group first round tie between the two nations in 2014. The Canadians lost that one, but they were without Milos Raonic, (Thornhill) and Vasek Pospisil, (BC) due to injury. This time around they are both healthy and will be joined on the team by Frank Dancevic, (Niagara Falls) and doubles legend Daniel Nestor, (Toronto). The Japanese team is lead by Kei Nishikori. He is joined by Tatsuma Ito, Go Soeda and Yasutaka Uchiyama.

Play commences at 2pm PT with the first of 2 singles matches. This will be followed by a doubles match on Saturday, beginning at 1pm PT. The final 2 singles matches are scheduled for Sunday, commencing at 2pm PT. All the action can be seen live on Sportsnet1

Indoor Junior Provincials
The OTA has a record number of entries for the Ontario Junior Closed Indoor Provincial Championships: 494 entries! 302 players are competing in the Qualifying event and 256 will compete in the main draws events scheduled for:

· U12; ACE Burlington

· U14: White Oaks; Niagara-on-the-Lake

· BU16: Parkside; Windsor

· GU16: Veneto; Vaughan

· U18: ORC; Mississauga

13 Officials have been assigned to work these events.
